Born and raised in the NYC suburb of Mt. Vernon (same hometown
as Denzel Washington and Sean "P.Diddy" Combs), I am a child of the '70s. Influenced by disco and funk music, kung-fu movies
and Hammer films, I was brought up by a single mom. Enrolled in catholic school, Sacred Heart, I spent twelve years "readin'
writin' and repentin'." Upon graduating from Blessed Sacrament-St. Gabriel
High School (with the Religion Award), I was eager to study zoology at the next level.
![]() In the fall of 1990, I decided to pursue my scholarly pursuits at WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY, home of the Mountaineers. For the first two and a half years I was an energetic biology major until I hit the wall in chemistry. Unable to master the chemical disciplines, I changed majors. In the spring of 1994 I tossed my cap in the air and became a WVU graduate with a B.A. in English Literature, Creative Writing emphasis. - Published in the collegiate literary journal Calliope vol. 6 (1994).
